Stages of our history

 

1976

EP - Electricidade de Portugal arose following the merger of 13 Portuguese electricity companies, which were nationalized in 1975.

 

1996

The publication of the first Community directive led to changes in the organization and jurisdiction of the European electricity sector.


1997

The first phase of the company's privatization allows the sale of 30% of its capital.

 

2000

The fourth phase of privatization turns EDP into a majority private company (70%).

EDP Distribuição is born.

 

2006

From 2006, all electricity consumers can freely choose their electricity supplier. Management of the processes of switching suppliers becomes a job for EDP Distribuição.

 

2010

The Smart City project is launched in Évora, the first of its kind on the Iberian Peninsula.

 

2011

The new EDP brand appears linking Portugal, Spain and Brazil while EDP Distribuição’s separate identity is released.

 

2013

EDP becomes leader in the “Utilities: Electricity, Water and Gas” sector in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index World and Europe, with the highest ever score of 90 points

 

2014

EDP Distribuição wins the "Most Effective Recovery of the Year" prize, awarded by the Business Continuity Institute, in acknowledgement of how the company was able to recover the network and restore services to customers who were left without electricity, following Storm Gong that hit mainland Portugal between January 19 and 23, 2013.
 

2015

EDP Distribuição joins Alliander, ENEL, EVN and other industry partners and universities as a founding member of EE-ISAC (European Energy Center - Information Sharing and Analysis).

The Business Continuity Management System is certified by the Business Continuity International Standard ISSO 22301: 2012, turning EDP Distribuição an european reference.


2016

EDP Distribuição launches an app for consumers to submit meter readings or report power cuts.

The Management System for Research, Development and Innovation (SGIDI) was certified by Societé Générale de Surveillance (SGS) turning EDP Distribution in the first national utility to be certified for Innovation.

DGF's Inspections Department was certified in Quality Management under ISO 9001:2008 by Empresa Internacional de Certificação, S.A. (eiC) on 11 November 2016, being the first area of EDP Distribuição to obtain this certification.


2017

An app for Local Authoraties is presented at the National Association of Municipalities Congress and made available for all Portuguese Municipalities.

EDP Distribuição celebrates its first-time achievement of “zero fatal injuries”, as a result of the operational team work, security training and awareness campaigns.
 

2018

EDP Distribuição 2020 sustainability strategy is approved, aiming to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) agenda.

Renewables Grid Initiative (RGI) awards EDP Distribuição in the "Environmental Protection" category at the "Good Practice of the Year Awards", an annual initiative that distinguishes outstanding practices in grid development.

EDP Distribuição is 100% certified in the Environmental Management System (EMS), according to ISO 14001: 2015.

Distribuição Digital Project is congratulated with an Honorable Mention at the Portugal Digital Awards 2018, in the category of "Best Digital Product & Customer Experience", which awards innovation and releasing of new products, services and/or customer experience improvements.

DGF's Inspections Department transitions, in the follow-up audit of Quality Management on January 10, 2018, to ISO 9001:2015..

 

2019


EDP Distribuição is the first national company in the energy sector certified in Cybersecurity, under the international standard ISO 27001.

Certification is obtained for EDP Distribuição's Technological Knowledge Management System (SGCT), under the ISO 9001:2015 standard.

EDP Distribuição customers are provided with an exclusive service network, comprising 23 stores, present in all districts of mainland Portugal.

DGF's Inspections Department renews its Quality Management certification on November 11, 2019. This process started a new certification cycle, with a certificate valid until November 16, 2022.

The InovGrid 2030 program was launched, which aims to make the grids smarter, with a strong focus on technology and digitalization.

 

2020


The process to change the brand of EDP Distribuição receives the green light from ERSE on August 12.

 

2021


On January 29th EDP Distribuição is renamed E-REDES.
