E-REDES repair work is focused on restoring the high and medium voltage network in the central region of the country. All teams are currently mobilised, with 1,200 operational staff in the field. The most severe effects of this storm were felt in the districts of Leiria, Coimbra, Santarém, Castelo Branco and Portalegre.

At 3 p.m. today, 30 January, E-REDES had around 266,000 customers to supply, with operational resources concentrated in the districts of Leiria, Santarém, Portalegre, Coimbra and Castelo Branco, which are currently the most affected. The vast majority of customers to be supplied are located in the district of Leiria, around 209,000. Santarém and Portalegre have around 17,000 each, Coimbra has 12,000 and Castelo Branco has 10,000 customers to supply.

All available operational resources, both human and equipment, have been mobilised and distributed across the most affected areas. To reinforce and mitigate the damage caused, E-REDES has mobilised three mobile power stations and around 250 generators.

Emphasising that the impacts caused by the Kristin Depression are unparalleled with any other disturbed weather system experienced in mainland Portugal, drones and helicopters have also been mobilised for the district of Leiria, which will allow for greater and more accurate visibility of the damage caused to electrical infrastructure.

The priority at this moment is to restore the 680 km of damaged high-voltage network in the district of Leiria, energise the three substations that are still without power, and repair the 46 broken poles at this voltage level. This will be followed by the repair of all problems already identified in the medium voltage network, with around 600 broken or damaged poles, corresponding to around 3,750 km of network in the aforementioned districts, and at the same time, where it is already possible to resolve the low voltage problems.

The installation of generators to support hospitals and other services that are essential to citizens' lives (water, telecommunications, civil protection and authorities) is also a priority, as is the installation of generators in all municipal headquarters where power has not yet been restored.

In the current scenario, there are constraints that prevent a faster and desired restoration of power to customers. Mobility conditions on the ground and intermittent weather conditions are hampering repair work on the grid, which has been weakened by the fierce and widespread destruction, especially in the district of Leiria.
