For E-REDES, as a DSO, asset management and vegetation management are key components in preventing and anticipating failures and incidents that would have a negative impact on the network and its various stakeholders. Despite the good practices used and the various technological means employed, the aim is to continue innovating in the management of the network and its coexistence with vegetation. In this context, the Earth Observation for Vegetation Management project uses artificial intelligence on images collected by satellites to manage vegetation in the vicinity of high and medium voltage networks.
This technology was implemented to respond to three use cases:
- Analysis of the volume and density of vegetation using satellite images, in order to facilitate monitoring and prioritization of interventions on the ground;
- Carrying out satellite audits of vegetation management operations, allowing E-REDES to have overall control of this activity;
- Incorporating analysis into Analytics4Vegetation (A4V), an Artificial Intelligence (AI) solution for vegetation management that integrates the growth of different species, climate, soil, altitude and other factors that influence growth. It also includes process automation, thus improving efficiency in vegetation control.
