E-REDES invests 14.5 million euros in vegetation management

The announcement was made this morning by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company, during the III Vegetation Management Conference

E-REDES will invest, until the end of this year, 14.5 million euros in inspection and intervention actions in protection areas and fuel management strips near power lines, in order to ensure the improvement of the quality of service and safety of electricity grids.

"E-REDES has made a significant investment in the development of innovative solutions for the management, maintenance and monitoring of electricity grids, with special focus on forest areas. To this end, we have implemented advanced systems for monitoring vegetation near the electricity distribution network, examples of which are the thermographic inspection of power lines through helicopter flights and the measurement of safety distances using drones and satellite images. The processing of the aerial images and all the information collected has allowed us to ensure an increasingly efficient intervention on the ground," assured José Ferrari Careto. "By combining technical knowledge with technology and its immense potential, we have achieved clear benefits for society, both in terms of safety and service quality.  Vegetation management is a very challenging issue, especially in a country with the characteristics of Portugal, but we believe that with a coordinated action of all, we are on the right track," said the president of E-REDES.

The digital event, broadcasted from Pampilhosa da Serra, was attended by more than 600 people from various institutions and entities related to this issue and was attended by the Secretary of State for Nature Conservation, Forests and Spatial Planning.

"E-REDES is one of the entities that make up the Integrated Management System of Rural Fires that introduces greater efficiency in the implementation and maintenance of the secondary network fuel management strips, demonstrating that technology is a powerful ally in the efficient and intelligent management of fuel. Aware of the increasing importance of technology in monitoring the land surface, we follow very closely the technological processes that can enhance the land cover monitoring system, based on a fundamental premise: good information is essential for good and better policies. Recognizing this evidence and this need, the Government, with the support of the Next Generation EU, will invest significantly in the LiDAR survey, in the digital terrain model and in the coverage with very high resolution satellite images of the entire national territory, among other investments that will be made in the scope of the reference cartography", concluded João Catarino.
