Prevention and Safety

Work in the vicinity of the power grid

Electrical accidents usually happen due to a lack of knowledge, carelessness or negligence. When carrying out work or other activities on or near electrical installations, you should be aware of the risks to which you are exposed and avoid them.

Works on the public road carried out near underground cables can lead to risky situations when excavating and drilling into the ground.

Before drilling or excavating, contact E-REDES in advance to find out if there are any buried electrical cables in the vicinity of the work.

What precautions you should take:

  • Identify and mark cable routes in a clearly visible way, always in conjunction with E-REDES.
  • Appoint a qualified person to monitor the work if it is carried out within 1.50 meters of the cables.
  • Only use hand tools (shovels or hoes) when near buried electrical cables, after seeing the respective cable signs, always taking care not to damage them. The use of pickaxes is not permitted in these situations.
  • A minimum safety distance of 0.30 centimetres must be maintained if the cables are already visible and mechanical tools have to be used near them.

If there is any doubt about the distances or the location of the buried electrical cable signs, the approach must always be made manually, taking care not to damage the cable insulation.
