Public Lighting – An Instrument of Citizenship

Lighting consumes about 15% of all electricity worldwide and plays a major role in our lives – whether it is lighting buildings in the service and housing sector, industrial lighting, decorative lighting, special lighting and signage. or at the level of Public Lighting – also called “PL”.

Technology - the future of LED

New public lighting technologies make it possible to provide visual comfort, safety for people and property, and reduced maintenance needs, in an increasingly sustainable way.

The revolution in solid-state lighting (LED) has led to a reduction in consumption, an increase in equipment efficiency and a reduction in the cost of LED luminaires.

These technologies make it possible to control the luminous flux according to the needs of each moment, as well as improving the direction of that flux, minimising waste and light pollution.

Another relevant aspect is the physiological response to light, an issue that directly influences our well-being and aims to minimise the impact of artificial light on human health. There are efficient LED technology solutions with a colour temperature that ensure not only good colour rendering, but also avoid negative effects on health.

The new public lighting systems can also provide new services, where each luminaire has a unique identification and is integrated into an intelligent network that manages the lighting (luminous flux variation, fault detection, predictive maintenance, and biodynamic colour temperature control).

LED technology is now an integral part of E-REDES' business, accounting for around 57% of the 3.2 million luminaires in the Public Lighting network. The growth of this technology will continue over the next few years, incorporating new market trends such as real-time control and monitoring, combined with new network supervision technologies.

Have you detected a malfunction?
  1. If you have spotted a street lamp with a bulb that has stopped working, an intermittent light or even an unlit street, you should inform E-REDES so that the malfunction can be rectified as soon as possible. You can do it simply and quickly on our website or in the E-REDES app.

By detecting and reporting these types of malfunctions and problems, you are contributing to a more efficient and safe public lighting network and the well-being of all citizens.

If you wish to request the installation of new public lighting fixtures, you should address your request to the local authority (Municipality or Parish Council), as it is the responsibility of the Municipality to define the number of lighting fixtures to be installed and responsible for carrying out the necessary diligences with E-REDES.
