Landscape Integration

We apply the principles of prevention and mitigation to our activities and implement measures to protect ecosystems.

Landscape integration of electrical infrastructure is the target of a series of actions by E-REDES. As with any intervention to enhance the landscape, aesthetic and functional aspects are taken into account, which are interdependent.

The aim of landscape integration is to:

  • Respect and protect the landscape by preventing damage caused by interventions on vegetation, rock formations, surfaces, or watercourses and by promoting the healing of open wounds on the landscape;
  • Reveal, highlight, and frame the landscape by choosing intervention locations, safeguarding points or events of greater landscape value;
  • Model, recompose and compose the degraded landscape, promoting or reconstituting its vegetation compartmentalisation, contributing to the layout itself.

In order to implement the best solutions for landscape integration, a handbook of good practice has been created with the support from the Centre for Research into Biodiversity and Genetic Resources at the University of Porto (CIBIO). This manual is a guide for the technical-economic and environmental solutions recommended at the new infrastructure project stage, and for the correction of existing infrastructure, considering the infrastructure type and the various landscape contexts that characterise national territory.
