Energy Transition

The decarbonisation of the electricity sector is crucial in this strategy of decarbonisation of the economy. As climate change transforms the Earth as we know it, we know that only with everyone's contribution can this challenge be met, and the planet protected.  The energy transition is one of the most important pillars of this fight, and at E-REDES we understand that the electric grid faces many challenges, but we are continuously working to overcome them.  After all, there is no Planet B.

The energy transition, based on the replacement of fossil energies by renewable sources, greater efficiency and the increasing electrification of consumption, is currently a consensual goal. The goals of achieving carbon neutrality in 2050 and limiting the temperature increase to 1.5°C contemplated in the Paris Agreement are the basis for ambitious European and national energy policies. 

In Portugal, the National Energy and Climate Plan 2030 foresees: 

• Reduce between 45% and 55% greenhouse gas emissions, with reference to the emissions recorded in the year 2005. 
• Incorporate 47 % of energy from renewable sources into gross final energy consumption.
• Reduce primary energy consumption by 35% for better energy efficiency.
• Achieve 15 % electricity interconnections.

Power + Smart Grids

E-REDES, as the concessionaire of the high, medium and low voltage distribution networks in mainland Portugal, plays a central role in the ongoing energy transition, connecting consumers, self-consumers, producers, aggregators, storage systems, supply and demand for flexibility services, and electric vehicles. A complex and dynamic ecosystem with different actors and needs, of electricity and of information. The distribution system operator (DSO) breaks with the classic model of electricity network manager and becomes an information network manager. 

Digitalization, the massification of smart grids capable of ensuring bi-directional flows of energy and data, gives the DSO the role of data hub. It is this data that allows the monitoring, control and dynamic management of energy, in real time, in order to optimize energy flows, the increasing integration of decentralized renewable and variable production, and the active participation of the consumer. All without ever compromising the quality and reliability of electricity supply. 

E-REDES continues to invest in intelligence, resilience, automation and sensing, new planning and management tools, and multi-stakeholder data sharing because the grids of the future are an ongoing challenge until we achieve a full and just energy transition.

• Calculation of monthly consumption, based on real readings.
• Change of contracted power, disconnection, change of cycle, carried out remotely.
• Personalized communication through messages received on the smart device at the consumer's home.
• Efficient monitoring via the web (Load Diagram) - graphical analysis of consumption, simulation and consultation of the time cycle to select the most advisable period to consume, adaptation of contracted power to real consumption. 
• Linking smart equipment to local devices (personal computers (PC), personal digital assistants (PDA), displays) via a Home Area Network (HAN) for consulting consumption data.
• Setting up automatic warnings (letter, email, SMS, local devices) for greater rationalization of consumption.
